As a therapist, I take a laid-back approach to treatment, meeting people where they are in their healing journey. I consider the therapeutic relationship the most important part of the therapy process and you’ll find that I make it a priority to develop a safe, trusting relationship where you can feel comfortable with me. I try to show up as my authentic self with the people I work with, leaning on humor and appreciating the use of a good swear word here and there to emphasize an emotion.

Biography:

During my time as a therapist, I have developed a passion for supporting individuals who are navigating challenging relationships, unresolved trauma or grief, and anxiety. I work with people to help them gain insight into how past experiences may be impacting their daily lives, providing a safe, supportive space to process and repair those negative experiences. I address areas of communication, attachment style, nervous system regulation and boundary setting, working with my clients to empower them to use their skills to overcome difficult situations, and enhance positive coping skills to promote resiliency.

Throughout my trauma informed training, I gained a deeper understanding of the ways our nervous system responds to different situations and stressors, especially as a parent! I utilize this area of therapy to work with parents to not only understand how their child’s brain develops and responds to the people and environment around them, but to enhance understanding of their own. I offer ways to improve the relationship and trust building between parents and children through co-regulation, boundary setting, effective communication and mental flexibility. This has shown to increase children and teens’ capacity for emotional and behavioral control.

While I consider myself an integrative psychotherapist who matches my approach to the individual needs of my clients, I place a strong emphasis on the mind/body connection through somatic, mindfulness interventions. I also integrate cognitive behavioral and emotion focused techniques to address distortions, worry thoughts, negative self-talk and emotional reactivity.

Training and Education:

I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2015. I went on to obtain a Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wake Forest University in 2019. Throughout my educational training, I gathered experience in administering and scoring psychological evaluations, assisting in a variety of research projects and conferences regarding sleep hygiene in college age students, and held multiple therapy groups for children/teens struggling with social skills and communication. I have additional certifications and training in trauma informed care as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. I have spent the last several years working in private practice, with children, teens, adults and parents.

When I am not providing therapy, you can usually find me doing something outdoors, especially in the hot summer months! I have 2 young kids that keep me busy, and a growing collection of pets (somebody stop me). Shyla is my oldest furbaby, and she sometimes makes an appearance in my telehealth sessions. My self-care essentials are immersing myself in a good book or TV series (all genres welcome here), dancing around to loud music in the kitchen, or jumping on the bike for a good sweat. I value humor, red wine, sarcasm, and board games and strongly believe in the power of a 70's music playlist.

Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor

Enduring difficult times often removes us from a sense of who we are or want to be. Our identities get lost as relationships come and go, and we transition through developmental stages. There is profound healing in reconnecting or finding with our true selves by showing compassion for the many parts that make up who we are.

Biography:

I believe it is important to accept people just as they are and where they are in their process. I approach counseling collaboratively, with you as the expert of your own life. Together, we will explore a deeper understanding of the barriers preventing you from living the life you want. You deserve to live your most fulfilling, meaningful life and you don’t have to be alone in this journey.

I am passionate about supporting teens and young adults to deal with the complexities of life transitions, interpersonal effectiveness, unresolved trauma, depression, anxiety and emotion regulation. Navigating the developmental stages can be confusing and filled with complex issues. I use a combination of modalities including Psychoeducation, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed and neurodiversity affirming therapy. I have an enthusiastic down to earth approach where I use these modalities to focus on your healing–incorporating some gentle, dark humor along the way. I also have developed a passion working with people who are neurodivergent, whose brains work differently. People with neurodivergence don’t always feel a sense of belonging, which can lead to miscommunication, increased depression and anxiety.

Training and Education:

I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, from Campbell University in 2013. I completed my Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wake Forest University in 2017. Throughout my educational training I gained experience working with a variety of clients in a private practice setting, facilitated multiple therapy groups for childrens/teens struggling with social skills, emotional regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness. I am currently certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and working towards a certification in trauma informed care as a Clinical Trauma Professional.

When I take off my therapist hat, you can find me making memories with my little one and family, diving into true crime shows, rewatching The Office, or reading a new thriller book (while staring at all the books on my “Therapist shelf”).
